(OZSW Masterclass) Lifting the Blinds: Workshop on Diversity and Exclusion in Academic Philosophy
(OZSW Masterclass) Lifting the Blinds: Workshop on Diversity and Exclusion in Academic Philosophy
Academic philosophy has a diversity problem. While gender, racial and ethnic diversity flourishes in many other disciplines, philosophy departments in Europe, North America, and Australia remain startlingly true to an age-old formula: predominantly white, Western males studying the thought of other white, Western males. In the Netherlands, only 4.5% of “hoogleraren” (full professors) of philosophy … Continue reading (OZSW Masterclass) Lifting the Blinds: Workshop on Diversity and Exclusion in Academic Philosophy →

OZSW Autumn Course ‘Uncommon Notions: Fragments, Obscurities, Authority‘

(CPP Coloquium Leiden) ”The Paradox of Power”, Frank Chouraqui
(CPP Coloquium Leiden) ”The Paradox of Power”, Frank Chouraqui
Power is usually distinguished from mere force by its reliance on consent. This consent can take one of two forms: the first is the recognition of the legitimacy of the authority's power, and the other is some sort of willful submission. Power structures that function on the latter principle constitute the focus of the realist … Continue reading (CPP Coloquium Leiden) ”The Paradox of Power”, Frank Chouraqui →

OZSW Autumn School Migration, Borders, and Citizenship
OZSW Autumn School Migration, Borders, and Citizenship
About the topic “Borders have guards and the guards have guns. This is an obvious fact of political life but one that is easily hidden from view—at least from the view of those of us who are citizens of affluent Western democracies.” This observation by Joseph Carens points to a conflict between the widely accepted … Continue reading OZSW Autumn School Migration, Borders, and Citizenship →

OZSW course Philosophy of Risk
