In the Western philosophical and scientific tradition, intellectual debate manifested itself in a variety of forms: as a matter of pleasure, joy and entertainment, as a dialectical path to truth, and finally as conflict, contest, controversy or combat. This master class following an international conference on the subject addresses the development of early-modern psychology through an analysis of major controversial issues that surrounded it.
The Master Class is directed at young researchers, from the level of advanced Research Master's students to that of postdocs, who work in the field of the history of psychology 1500-1700 or strictly related fields. The Master Class will have two parts: 1. In the first part, Professor Gary Hatfield, one of the leading scholars in the field of the history of psychology, will discuss a relevant seventeenth-century text. 2. In the second part, short research papers of max. 4 pp., submitted by the attendees of the Master Class, will be collectively discussed. The aim of the Master Class is to assist each other's research and create a scholarly network. If you are interested in participating in the Master Class, please register before 15 June 2015, submitting a CV and a 10-line description of the theme that you would like to discuss with us during the Class. Dutch participants will get their travel expenses reimbursed. Foreign participants should contact the organizers for reimbursement of their travel expenses.

This master class following an international conference on the subject addresses the development of early-modern psychology through an analysis of major controversial issues that surrounded it.

The Master Class is directed at young researchers, from the level of advanced Research Master’s students to that of postdocs, who work in the field of the history of psychology 1500-1700 or strictly related fields.
