THE PROJECT

The ROBOWAR RESPONSIBILITY Project aims to bring together researchers from the areas of philosophy, law, politics, psychology as well as military personnel, experts in robotics and information technology to study the conceptual and ethical implications of recent development of automatic weapon systems (e.g. drones) in warfare. At a conceptual level, the project addresses questions like: What does it take for an automatic weapon system to count as an autonomous agent? In what ways (if any) may automatic weapons of new generation put humans out-of-the-loop in warfare? At a normative level, the project addresses questions like: What kind of moral and legal consequences may the employment of new generation automatic weapon systems have for attributions of responsibility? How should future automatic weapon systems be designed to avoid unwanted responsibility gaps and other unwanted risks?

STARTING WORKSHOP

We invite expressions of interest from researchers and practitioners in relevant areas who would like to participate in an upcoming workshop that will take place on 28-29 March 2014 at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.

CALL FOR INTEREST
