Professor James Ladyman will be one of the keynote speakers at the OWZS Graduate Conference in Theoretical Philosophy, starting on April 29th. The day before the conference, professor Ladyman will be in Nijmegen for an in-depth discussion of his book Every Thing Must Go (2007), open to a select number of participants only.
In the book, Ladyman and his co-author Don Ross argue that the only kind of metaphysics that can contribute to objective knowledge is one based specifically on contemporary science as it really is, and not on philosophers' a priori intuitions, common sense, or simplifications of science. They go on to defend Ontic Structural Realism and Rainforest Realism, as metaphysics for fundamental physics and the special sciences respectively.
If you are a Research Master or PhD-student, or postdoctoral researcher, and would like to attend the masterclass, please send a short CV and a brief statement of interest (max. 400 words) before April 1st to the organizer, Frank van Caspel (frank@frankvancaspel.nl).
Participants will be expected to have read the book before the masterclass. For those interested, it is recommended to join our Nijmegen-based reading group in preparation of the masterclass. The reading group will meet on February 25th, March 11th & 25th and April 8th & 22nd from 10-13h. If you would like to join send an e-mail to frank@frankvancaspel.nl.
