Book symposium on Ulrike Heuer’s new book manuscript “Intentions Unbound. The Rationality and Morality of Intentions”  Friday  June 22 Utrecht Ulrike Heuer is Reader at the Philosophy Department of University College London. Her work is primarily on theories of practical reasons, in action theory, and in normative ethics. The focus of her current research is on action theory and moral psychology (intentions, responsibility, moral luck). In the book “Intentions Unbound”  she explores what intentions are, how they relate to the reasons for which we act, whether they are morally significant, and, if so, whether the doctrine of double effect captures how they affect moral evaluation. (http://www.ulrikeheuer.net/contents/) We will discuss three chapters of the book with the author present: (1) Acting Intentionally; (2) Acting for a reason; (3) Responsibility for failure and negligence.  Drafts will be sent to you after registration (Katrien.Schaubroeck@uantwerpen.be). Dawa Ometto (University of Leipzig), Niels van Miltenburg (Utrecht University) and Frank Hindriks (University of Groningen) will open the discussion with a commentary. The book symposium is a joint activity organised by 3 study-groups: Mind in Action, Moral Psychology and Meta-Ethics, and is sponsored by the OZSW (lunch will be provided).
