Workshop: Contemporary Marxism in China and the West

The workshop will involve two presentations, each followed by a comment:
Li Yitian (Tsinghua University, Beijing):
“Two Dimensions in Marx’s Concept of Justice: Revisiting the Tucker-Wood Thesis”
Zhang Xiao (Renmin University, Beijing):
“What Contemporary Marxism Can Learn from G.A. Cohen’s Moral Defense of Socialism”
The comments will be provided by Emile Ike and Jan Overwijk (both UvA) and will serve to open up the discussion.

Li Yitian is Professor in the School of Marxism at Tsinghua University in Beijing. His research interests include contemporary ethics and political philosophy in a Marxist perspective as well as virtue ethics and ecological ethics. He has published widely on Marxist ethics, eco-socialism and contemporary moral philosophy.
Zhang Xiao is Associate Professor in the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China in Beijing. His research interests include Marxist ethics and the relation between Western and Chinese Marxism. He has published widely on the ethical aspects of Marx’s thoughts, Western and Chinese ethics and economic ethics.
