Workshop Aristotle: Law, Reason and Emotion
17 November 2014 - 20 November 2014|
Workshop Aristotle: Law, Reason and Emotion – Amsterdam on 19-21 November 2014
To make a first reconnaissance with the subject and to establish some common ground between the different disciplines, we will organize a workshop in Amsterdam on 19-21 November 2014.
We want to focus in the workshop and in the book on three areas:
– a treatment of emotions in Aristotle’s corpus;
– texts of Aristotle on emotion compared to texts of legal and political writers in his own time, like Lysias and Demosthenes;
– a comparison of the treatment of emotions in Aristotle’s theory with the work of one or two theorists on law, politics or psychology in more recent times or with the discourse of legal historians.
Those who want to present a paper will have to submit an abstract (max 500 words) before 1st of May 2014, and a full paper (max 10.000 words) before the 1st of September 2014. The papers will be distributed to all participants. The workshop will have the form of a round-table presentation and discussion.
Admission for the workshop is free. Registration and contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
We will invite some keynote speakers and will post a second call as soon as the invitations are accepted.
