I would like to invite you to attend a seminar on the use of biotechnologies for nature conservation on May 17 at the Reehorst in Ede (5 minute walk from station Ede-Wageningen). Speakers will be Clare Palmer and Yasha Rohwer. Please find attached the program and registration information. Clare Palmer a British philosopher, theologian and scholar of environmental and religious studies who is currently a professor in the Department of Philosophy at Texas A&M University. She has previously held academic appointments at the University of Greenwich, the University of Stirling, Lancaster University and Washington University in St. Louis, among others. Palmer is well-known for her work in environmental and animal ethics. She has published three sole-authored books, of which Animal Ethics in Context (Columbia University Press) is very influential in the animal ethics community. In this book she argues from a relational perspective that we have different duties towards domesticated than towards wild animals. She also has a strong voice in environmental ethics, with two books (Environmental Ethics and Environmental Ethics and Process Thinking, Oxford University Press). Yasha Rohwer is associate professor of philosophy at Oregon Tech in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department, in Klamanth Falls. His primary areas of research are environmental ethics and philosophy of science. His current work in applied ethics explores problems at the leading edge of scientific discovery and practice. Here, he examines the ethics of cognitive enhancement and de-extinction, as well as ethical implications of genetic engineering for conservation biology. Please see this poster for the programme.
