Symposium: limits and ethics of human enhancement
18 May 2018
This academic year, the FUF (the study association for the Faculty of Philosophy) and SV Eureka (the study association for the Humanities Honours Programme) have joined forces with the Centre for Humanities, VIDIUS, the UU’s Humanities Honours Programme, and the UU’s Department of Philosophy to organize a symposium on human enhancement and transhumanism. The symposium will take place.
Recent and future developments in science and technology will enable us more and more to change and enhance human beings. From designer babies to cyborgs; how future humans will look like seems to be increasingly up to us. What sorts of development can we expect? And what should we strive for? What ethical considerations are there? Is it our moral duty to enhance humanity? Or should ethical concerns rein in transhumanist aspirations? To discuss questions like these there will be four talks, followed by a panel discussion.
About the OZSW event calendar
The OZSW event calendar lists academic philosophy events organized by/at Dutch universities, and is offered by the OZSW as a service to the research community. Please check the event in question – through their website or organizer – to find out if you could participate and whether registration is required. Obviously we carry no responsibility for non-OZSW events.
