PhD defense R. Dings: “Not being oneself? Self-ambiguity in the context of mental disorder”

8 January 2020 @ 12:30 - 14:00

Description

It is quite common in psychiatric contexts that people report ‘not feeling like themselves’, or have difficulty distinguishing themselves from their mental disorder. Roy Dings provides a philosophical analysis that enables us to better understand such cases. He identifies various conceptual, epistemological and contextual obstacles that may arise when psychiatric patients try to make sense of who they are in the context of a mental disorder.
