WEDNESDAY 11 MAY 2022 @ 17:00 UTC+02 Book panel “Understanding the Rights of Nature” In this book panel, we discuss Mihnea Tănăsescu’s recent book on the rights of nature with four specialists in the field. In this thought-provoking book, Mihnea critically assesses the ‘movement’ for rights of ‘nature’, providing various new insights on the presumed connections between nature’s rights and indigenous worldviews, the construction of ‘nature’ as a totality, the political implications of recognizing nature’s rights, and the differences and similarities between the various implementations of nature’s rights in the world. After an interview with the author by moderator Eva Bernet Kempers, a panel discussion with Sophia de Vries, Laura Burgers, Elin Boyer and Marcel Wissenburg will probe deeper into the work. After that, there will be time for questions from the audience. The event aims to form a starting point for the audience to engage with the book, which is freely accessible via open access. The event will take place on Zoom (the link will be made available closer to the event).
