Each COMET edition, one book by a contemporary continental philosopher is discussed. COMET V revolves around Karen Barad’s Meeting the Universe Halfway: Quantum Physics and the Entanglement of Matter and Meaning. This iteration will conclude with a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Evelien Geerts.
Dr. Geerts (she/they) is an interdisciplinary philosopher and Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Gender, Women’s Studies & Philosophy at University College Cork, Ireland, with a passion for political, feminist & environmental philosophy, critical theory, and critical pedagogies.
In the lecture, Dr. Geerts will be discussing the influence of Barad’s thought, as well as key themes that play an important role in her research, namely, the ethical and political implications of agential realism as they relate to the notions of responsibility, violence, and accountability.
