Description

This is the first edition of the “Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies” course, a new PhD-course organised by the research consortium ESDiT. The course will study emerging socially disruptive technologies and apply the frameworks that are being developed within the ESDiT programme (www.esdit.nl). Various senior researchers from the ESDiT consortium will act as instructors.

The aim is to become familiar with key approaches to studying and evaluating socially disruptive technologies, as developed in the ESDiT programme.

  • February 17: What are socially disruptive technologies (SDTs) and how can they be evaluated?
  • February 18: Conceptual disruption and SDTs
  • February 19: Intercultural philosophy and SDTs
  • February 20: Transdisciplinarity and ethics of technology
  • February 21: Student presentations

Confirmed Lecturers confirmed Dr. Jeroen Hopster, Prof. Dr. Ibo van de Poel, Prof. Adam Henschke, Dr. Giles Howdle. Various other instructors will participate (names TBA). Each day students will engage with the work of two to three instructors.

Preparation and assessment

The preparation and assessment will generally consist of reading and participation.

For those who want to receive the full credits (5 ECTS), it further consists of a presentation, and paper submission within one month after the course.

For those who want to receive 3 ECTS, it only consists of a presentation (and thus without final paper).

Costs and registration

Costs:

  • Free for PhD candidates who are a member of the OZSW and/or 4TU Center for Ethics and Technology and/or another research school in Humanites (LOGOS);
  • Free for Research Master students who are a member of the OZSW and/or 4TU Center for Ethics and Technology and/or another research school in Humanities (LOGOS);
  • All others pay a tuition fee of 300 euros.
