The 37th Annual Dutch-Flemish Day of Philosophy aims to bring together philosophers working in the Netherlands, Belgium, and abroad, from all philosophical disciplines, to present and discuss their philosophical research. We explicitly invite junior researchers to participate and to submit an abstract.

After a successful premier last year, this year’s Dutch-Flemish Day of Philosophy will again feature academic philosophy with a twist. The model for the event is the so-called ‘Science Slam,’ an increasingly popular event where research reporting and story-telling go hand in hand. We use this format to encourage instructive, entertaining, and lucid communication of philosophical ideas. Speakers are heartily invited to try out something new, both in regards to the content and to the mode of their presentation. All presentations will be plenary talks, with 10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. You are free to choose your mode of presentation; there aren’t specific pre-sets (e.g. as to whether or not use slides or other media).

A jury will award the presentation that best manages to combine a compelling presentation with philosophical depth. There will also be an award from the public. Accepted authors will be given the opportunity to participate in sponsored, tailored presentation training before the event.

If you intend to do a presentation, please submit your abstract (min 200, max 300 words) in Dutch or English via the abstract submission form on the event webpage (if that form does not work, please use this one). Please state both your argument and how you intend to present it. Submission deadline: 12-07-2017. Submissions will be subject to double-blind review.
