Masterclass Angus Gowland 20 February 2015

The OZSW and Radboud University Nijmegen invite PhD students and ReMa-students for a Masterclass by Dr. Angus Gowland “Religious Melancholy and Secularisation in Early Modern Europe” on Friday 20 February 2015, from 10h-12.30h in Nijmegen.

The place of religious melancholy within the intellectual culture of early modern Europe will be considered during this masterclass. We will also seek to address the role of religious melancholy in contemporary religious and political controversies that have long been seen as precursors to Enlightenment secularisation.

Dr. Angus Gowland is a Reader in Intellectual History (University College London). His broad interest is in early-modern European intellectual history, and more particularly sixteenth- and seventeenth-century political thought, moral philosophy, psychology and medicine.
