6 prestigeous VENI grants for philosophers

Six philosophers have recently acquired a prestigeous VENI grant from NWO, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO’s overview of all 2013 projects awarded with a VENI grant). It concerns the following people / projects:

  • Gassendi’s theorie van de ruimte (Gassendi’s theory of space) – Dr. Delphine Bellis (University of Groningen)
  • Hoe worden overstromingsrisico’s eerlijk verdeeld?  (How can flooding risks be distributed fairly?) – Dr. Ir. Neelke Doorn (Delft University of Technology)
  • Learning from each other  (Leren van elkaar) – Dr. Nina Gierasimczuk (University of Amsterdam)
  • Wat zegt een cijfer?  (What does a number tell us?) – Dr. Conrad Heilmann (Erasmus University Rotterdam)
  • Kernafval: een transnationaal probleem? (Nuclear waste: a transnational problem?) – Dr. ir. Behnam Taebi (Delft University of Technology)
  • Verantwoordelijkheid en onwetendheid  (Responsibility and ignorance) – Dr. Jan-Willem Wieland (University of Amsterdam / Free University Amsterdam)

The VENI grants are part of NWO’s Incentives Scheme. It allows talented researchers who have recently obtained their PhD to conduct independent research and develop their ideas for a period of three years.
